Né en 1947 à Kampen, Pays Bas
La basse néerlandaise, Harry van der Kamp, a étudié le droit et la psychologie à Amsterdam avant de débuter des études musicales auprès de Max van Egmond puis Herman Woltman, Alfred Deller et Pierre Bernac.
Harry van der Kamp a acquis une notoriété internationale dans le répertoire de basse du XIVème au XVIIIème siècles.
Il a interprété de nombreux opéras de la période baroque (Peri, Agazzari, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Cesti, Purcell, Meder, Rameau et Händel) mais également de Mozart, Rossini, Berlioz et Hindemith.
Durant sa carrière, Harry van der Kamp a travaillé avec des chefs prestigieux comme Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Bach, Mozart, Händel), Hans Vonk (Stravinsky, Weill), Sergiu Commissiona (Rossini, Verdi), Gustav Leonhardt (Bach, Monteverdi, Biber, Purcell), Ivan Fischer (Monteverdi, Zelenka, Schütz), Bruno Weill (Haydn, Schubert), Frans Brüggen (Bach, Schütz), William Christie (Monteverdi, Händel), Ton Koopman (Bach, Monteverdi, Mozart), Reinbert de Leeuw (Kagel, Milhaud, Hindemith, Schönberg), René Jacobs (Cavalli, Cesti, Monteverdi), Alan Curtis (Stradella, Bach, Händel) et avec des ensembles tels que Hilliard Ensemble, Musica Antiqua Köln, Les Arts Florissants, Tragicomedia, La Petite Bande, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Tafelmusik et Huelgas Ensemble.
De 1974 à 1994 Harry van der Kamp était membre du Netherlands Chamber Choir, dont il était conseiller artistique de 1980 à 1987. En 1984 il fonde son propre ensemble, le Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam, pour jouer la musique du début du XVIIème siècle et la musique contemporaine.
Harry van der Kamp est professeur à la Hochschule für Künste de Brême et donne fréquemment des masterclasses en Europe.
